delorean1

As those of you who have bought the Legandary Cars expansion pack for Burnout Paradise will now, there are only four automobiles worthy of rendering in glorious HD: Knightrider’s Kit, the Ghostmobile, the Hazzardous Dodge Charger and the sleek, industrial, that’sthebloodyfuturerighttherethatis DeLorean.

So, how does this relate to wine? Well, after one last trip with Marty to witness the ancient Inca civilisations, let’s say ol’ Doc Brown has had enough of his Flux-Capacitor and decides to install a little drinks cabinet into his central armresty-bit. What what booze could posibly match the glorious, metal’n'wire aesthetics of the DeLorean?

Having already complimented one Italian wine producer on their simple, bold labels, we now have the pleasure of complimenting another on their excellent choice of typeface. The Roccafiore resort in Italy produces its own range of wines and olive oil, and has branded them all in the same understated modern style using plain tones, a dash of red and that most beautiful of serif typefaces, Bodoni.

Über-cool illustrator Von has turned his skills to providing an illustration for a new french wine brand:

Design Bridge, in collaboration with illustrator Von, has created the identity for Deesse, a new red wine produced by client Domaines Sacha Lichine under its Chateau D’Esclans label.

Pretty cool, especially compared to the rest of the Chateau D’Esclans range of wines. Love to get our hands on a bottle.

hochriegl_woman

Whilst searching for an image to illustrate the previous post, we stumbled upon these adverts for Hochriegl sparkling wine. Perhaps the Google bot is a tad boorish to equate Wine + Woman = Boobs, but we can’t resist a good visual pun. There’s a male tux version too, but somehow that isn’t ranked so highly…

We’re not sure if these designs by Moruba have actually been produced, but we love the simplicity of them. Seen via Swiss Miss where someone has commented that they look similar to these designs for Mondavi wines by Dave Warner based on musical notations…

In the near future we will have to do a full profile of Adelaide-based agency MASH and their seemingly inexhaustible list of brave and forward-thinking winemaker clients. But, for the time-being, here is their understated Rorschach-inky-butterfly designs for Inkwell wines. Nice floorboards too.

Although the French would rather put the name of the village donkey on the label rather than the grape variety, and the German method of categorising wine results in literary convolutions like “trockenbeerenauslese”, surely the Italians take the award for most opaque, illogical and beaurocratic system of wine naming and labelling. With little attempt to demystify their unfamiliar native grape varieties and huge differences in quality from the same region, we Groggers very rarely explore beyond Chianti and/or the second-to-cheapest one on the Pizza Express menu.

Agency: Stranger & Stranger

picture-15

Based in London, branding agency Stranger & Stranger have an enviable client list of international wine and spirit brands, including Grogger favourite Clos de los Siete. Their website and much of their work has a Victorian copperplate feel, and we especially love the look of Le Grand Noir with its gilded sheep and typographic foil.

“The Oggau Estate is a new wine growing estate that produces 9 wines with different characters. Each wine has its own individual character with its own story and complex, changing relationships. A wine family comprising of grandparents, parents and children with intrigue, secret affairs, arguments, colourful characters and the odd black sheep. A typical family clan.”

Designed by Jung von Matt, seen via Lovely Package.
